By ‘Curriculum’ we refer to all the learning opportunities provided by the school. We offer a ‘personalised curriculum’ which offers a wide range of activities, through which we teach short and long term targets, as set out in your child Individual Education Plan (IEP) and the Schools Schemes of Work.
We offer a modified version for the National Curriculum. This has been based on the broader statutory expectations:
Within the framework of the curriculum there is also an emphasis on:
The aim is to encourage maximum independence. These skills are taught giving students every opportunity to use their developing skills in a realistic context. For students aged 16 – 19 years (key stage 5 or Sixth form) we have developed a suitable curriculum.
The focus areas include:
Opportunities to link with post school providers such as local further education and independent specialist provision are organised as appropriate to the individual
Throughout the school learning and teaching strategies include use of:
A combination of such strategies will be incorporated into a student’s weekly timetable. Students remain with the same teacher and supporting staff for the majority of the week. They will access specialist teaching areas across the school.
We have a strong focus on delivering a curriculum that is rich with creativity. Our students participate in school, local authority and national ‘arts’ projects. We have strong partnerships with Globe Education, Live Music Now, The Young Vic, Magpie Dance company and IntoArts to name a few. An ‘art’ rich environment suits the students learning styles and enables them to engage and participate at a level appropriate to them. We are proud to have achieved ArtsMark Gold status.
